My Top 10 (Not So Scary) Halloween Movie Picks

It’s finally October which means it’s officially Halloween movie season! Hocus Pocus  played on Freeform last night and I’ll give you one guess where I’ll was! I’m not a scary movie kind of girl, so I’ve put together a list of my favorite, not so scary, Halloween movie picks.

hocus pocus

Hocus Pocus–This is probably every woman’s favorite Halloween movie. Quotes from the movie serve as inspiration to everything from home decor, to tshirts and mugs! It’s an over-the-top comedy with witches, black cats, and lots of laughs. It will be a classic for many years to come!

practical magic

Practical Magic–A 90s classic, in my opinion! Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are witchcraft #goals. You’ve got drama and romance. Most importantly, you’ve got magic and witches!

harry potter

Harry Potter–Yes, I know. Harry Potter isn’t technically a Halloween movie, but with witches, wizards, goblins, trolls and nearly headless ghosts; I call it close enough! If you don’t have enough time to watch all eight films, (I’m not sure what could possibly be more important…) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is your best bet for that low-key Halloween feeling.

rocky horor

Rocky Horror Picture Show–It’s a cult classic. The story of lovebirds Brad and Janet, whose car breaks down. They seek shelter in a nearby castle and where weird things ensue.

time warp again

Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again–I can’t even with this remake. Laverne Cox KILLS it as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The Music. The Costumes. Original diehard fans will disown me for saying this, but I love this version so much more!

casper

Casper–This movie brings back MAJOR childhood feels! On the surface, the story is about the paranormal activity of an abandoned house, but we all know the true story lies in the friendship that Kat and Casper develop as they help each other come to terms with tragedies in their respectives pasts.

hotel transylvania

Hotel Transylvania–This light-hearted animated movie is enjoyable, and as most animated movies do, provides a couple of great messages. Several classic and spooky halloween characters head on vacation to Hotel Transylvania and learn that prejudgements are not always right.

halloween town

Halloweentown–The 90s child in me rejoices for this movie! I watched this on repeat when it would come on the Disney Channel. I always dreamed that my grandma was secretly a witch and I could run away to Halloweentown!

coco

Coco–My new favorite Disney Pixar movie just happens to fit into this category! A Day of the Dead inspired movie that teaches the importance of family, because Disney, duh.

its the great pumpkin

It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown–I couldn’t leave this Halloween classic off the list. Follow along with the whole Peanuts gang as they wait for the Great Pumpkin!
